Nagaland Governor, CM, others pay tributes to late Mukherjee

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 31 (MExN):  Nagaland Governor, RN Ravi and Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio led the State in paying tribute to former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee who passed away in New Delhi on August 31. He was 84. 

Nagaland Governor:   Stating that the nation has “lost a great son” in his departure, Nagaland Governor, RN Ravi said that the former President of India dedicated his life to the service of the Nation and has left a legacy of value based politics. 

“Shri Pranab Mukherjee dedicated his life to the service of the Nation. A statesman who significantly shaped the course of modern Indian history and through his personal conduct left a legacy of value based politics. In his departure the country has lost a great son!," the official handle of Raj Bhavan Kohima stated in a tweet. 

Nagaland CM: Expressing sadness over the demise, Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio today said that Late Mukherjee was a towering personality of modern India and would be remembered as a staunch Congressman and Parliamentarian and a much respected President of the country.

The CM in a press release said that the former President excelled in all his assignments and responsibilities, displaying mature wisdom and deep insight. 

“He had a close bond with the Naga people and always showed deep concern for the people of Nagaland. In my several interactions with him in different capacities, late Pranab Mukherjee always gave a patient hearing and made efforts to resolve challenges in a humane and democratic manner,” Rio stated. 

“Nagaland joins the rest of the country in bereavement and in paying respect to the departed leader. On behalf of the Naga people and the Government of Nagaland, I offer our deepest condolences,” he added.

Deputy CM: Deputy Chief Minister and BJP Legislature Party leader, Y Patton said that Mukherjee’s political career spanning a glorious five decades is enviable. 

“He was a diplomat, a veteran politician and a fine statesman. In his death,the country has lost a respected citizen of the world. On behalf of the BJP legislators Patton conveyed his deepest condolences while praying for the departed soul to rest in peace,” Patton said in a press release.

NLA Speaker: The Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), Sharingain Longkumer also expressed sadness at the former President’s death and said that he was one of the tallest leaders Independent India had produced during the past century. 

“As a Parliamentarian, as a Minister and Administrator and finally coming to occupy the highest office of the land, he distinguished himself in every area he chose to associate himself with and left an indelible imprint of his personality on all of them. He was undoubtedly a Statesman of outstanding caliber,” Longkumer stated.

NPCC Minority Dept: Chairman of the NPCC Minority Department, Rajesh Kumar Sethi said that the nation has truly lost a great personality, a stalwart and a true Congressman.

Sethi said that he alongwith Captain G K Zhimomi got the chance to meet the former President personally when he visited last at Dimapur for his nomination as President in 2012.

“Minority Department, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee pay tribute and homage to the departed soul and pay heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family members and loved ones,” he added in a press release.
